Breast Surgery (Augmentation)

Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is performed to enhance the size of a woman’s breasts.  This may be done if a woman feels her breast size is too small or for correction of asymmetry.
Women who have had implants often report that they have a new found self-confidence and feel more normal and less depressed.  Satisfaction surveys indicate that eighty to ninety percent of women who have had breast implant operations are pleased with the results.
The procedure involves placing an implant under or on top of the chest muscle and inflating it with saline (salt water).  The volume of expansion, and subsequent breast size, is determined by the desires of the woman and her body shape and contour.  Some women desire a slight increase in fullness while others wish for a more dramatic increase.

The implants used today are a silicone shell and inflated with saline.  The procedure usually takes two hours and is performed at Louisiana Cosmetic Surgery Center. The patient goes home the same day.

Incisions are placed around the nipple or in the armpit.  A pocket is made either above or below the pectoralis major muscle (chest muscle).

The implant is inserted into the pocket and then inflated with saline.  The breasts are then dressed with bandages and a compression dressing.
