Botulinum A Toxin (BOTOX®) is a medicinal protein derived from the C.Botuluinum bacteria. It has been safely used for many years in the treatment of eyelid spasm, eye muscle spasm that causes crossed eyes, correction of facial muscle imbalance, and neck muscle spasm.

 

When injected in small doses, it works to temporarily (months) paralyze the affected muscle, and thereby softens the facial imbalance or releases the spasm.

  
 

 

More recently, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to relax the active facial muscles that over time create seemingly indelible creases between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes.

 

The same principles that make BOTOX® Cosmetic effective as a medical treatment make it effective as a cosmetic treatment. Injecting small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic into these active facial muscles results in localized paralysis and a smoother, more relaxed facial expression.
